The Legislative Duma of Tomsk Oblast
September 5, 2009. Two voters attended the Tomsk Oblast State Duma session
 Ms. Olga Makarova, Director of the Ust-Bakchar Cultural Center and Ms. Valentina Gubanova, Administrator of Vavilovskoye rural settlement of Bakcharsky District, took advantage of the voters' right to attend at the Oblast Duma session.
Ms. Makarova said that as soon as she learned from their constituency’s deputy Grigory Shamin that the voters are entitled with that right, she immediately decided to make use of it. She has been actively involved in local community affairs and often holds meetings with the regional administration officers and local deputies to discuss problems of community cultural institutions. It was not just out of idle curiosity that she decided to attend at the Oblast Duma session, but rather she wanted to gain practical experience.
As Ms. Makarova said, “All is arranged in such a concise, efficient, and consistent manner! It is obvious that our deputies do work hard. I was very glad to see that Grigory Shamin, the deputy from our constituency, is actively involved in discussions, raises vital points. We learn new things, too. When we are back home, we will share our experience with the citizens. I hope for close cooperation with the Oblast Duma in the future. All in all, we are very much satisfied with the performance of the Duma. Comparing the situation with that of ours I can say that although we are in other circumstances, we do make certain things in a similar manner.”
