14.07.10. Monument to an outstanding surgeon and deputy of the State Duma of Tomsk Oblast Georgy Zherlov installed
 In Seversk a monument to an outstanding Russian surgeon and deputy of the Tomsk Oblast State Duma of the third and fourth convocations Georgy Zherlov was installed.
Founder and first director of the Research Institute of Gastroenterology of Siberian State Medical University, honored doctor of the Russian Federation, Professor Georgy Zherlov died in the age of 60 on July 13, 2008.
Up to the last moment he was working as a surgeon, operating people, and implementing new and evidence based methods of treatment. His professional credo was “If there is the least chance to save a human life, it must be used”.
In the Oblast Duma Georgy Zherlov headed the Health Care Commission of the Labor and Social Policy Committee and contributed a lot to the legislative activity. Professor Zherlov initiated the Oblast Target Program on Gastroenterology under which thousands of Tomsk Oblast citizens got highly qualified medical treatment.
The money for the monument was raised by the employees of the Research Institute of Gastroenterology, Seversk businessmen and citizens, and patients of Professor Zherlov.
