April 27, 2010. Duma deputies visited Tomsk Special Economic Zone of technical innovation type
The deputies started their SEZ tour with the Northern Site. Then, they went to the Southern Site to look at the 17,000 sq. m building of the engineering center under construction. The building is 50% distributed among already functioning resident companies. For the most part, it will be occupied by Russian companies. At the end of the tour the deputies visited the Technology and Innovation Center of the Special Economic Zone.
Grigory Shamin, Chairman of the Legal Committee said: “Almost all deputies have visited the Special Economic Zone. And today, when each year we approve the budget, even if it is tight we allocate very good money for development. It is one billion rubles each year for the development of the Special Economic Zone for the federal authorities to see when they co-finance research activity that the region is able to invest. It is natural that the deputies, and especially those elected from rural communities, ask questions why we spend money for that instead of building roads in rural areas. But as we look at what has been already created we become convinced that this is money well invested. And this money is used rather effectively. We do face challenges but I am convinced that in our time we were right to have taken a decision to create a special economic zone in Tomsk.”
