Oblast Parliament welcomes guests from Iceland
Today, Speaker of the Legislative Duma of Tomsk Oblast

Irina Nikulina met with
Thorsteinn Ingi Sigfusson, General Director of the Innovation Center Iceland, expert in energy use and efficiency, and a laureate of the International Global Energy Prize in 2007;
Arni Thor Sigurdsson, member of the Icelandic parliament and Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee; and
Yuri Tyurin, Dr. Sc. (Physics and Mathematics), Professor of the General Physics Department of Tomsk Polytechnic University.
Last November, the Grants Council of the Government of the Russian Federation announced the names of 40 scientists who won in the open public contest for government grants to support academic research in Russian universities under the supervision of leading scientists.
The contest provided Tomsk Polytechnic University with an opportunity to invite two scientists from abroad. Professor Thorsteinn Sigfusson will lead research by a team of the Physics and Technology Institute of Tomsk Polytechnic University in hydrogen energy which is supposed to result in creation of a world-class international research laboratory “Hydrogen Energy Technologies” in Tomsk.
Boris Maltsev told that in October 2011, the Russian Government approved the concept of the project for creation of INOTomsk’2020 Center for Education, Research, and Development in Tomsk.
“It is very important for our region as the research and educational complex is the key employer in Tomsk,” the Speaker said. “Tomsk Oblast has a well-developed innovation infrastructure which includes commercialization offices, business incubators, centers for innovation and technology, technology transfer centers, and consulting companies. The share of innovative products in the total industrial output of the region has been steadily growing over recent years.”
