Vladimir Zhidkikh, Chairman of the Youth and Tourism Committee, put out a statement on the world economy interest in preserving the historical heritage objects at the Parliamentary Forum “Historical and Cultural Heritage of Russia” held in Kostroma. ‘Tourism enjoys 30% share of the global service export, i.e. approximately 1 trillion US dollars. Tourism covers 45% of the total service export in the developing countries.

Tourism is one of the economy sectors providing employment opportunities:over 50 million people of the world population are employed in this sphere’, said the Senator.

Vladimir Zhidkikh shared that just recently the Upper House of the Russian Parliament was visited by Taleb Rifai, Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), as a guest invited by Sergey Mironov, Chairman of the Federation Council. The meeting participants discussed the matters of international tourist industry development and the role played by world parliamentarians in this process. UNWTO estimates show that Russia has enormous advantage for the industry development. We enjoy tremendous potential to meet any demand of each and every person. Russia is the 59th among 139 countries as relates to competitive advantage in tourism. According to the Senator, on the one hand the result seems to be not good enough. On the other hand, it is certainly not bad, if not to forget that the country was opened for boundless tourism in 1990. Vladimir ZHIDKIKH. Photo Press Service of the Federation Council

‘The sooner we transfer historical monuments from the federal to the regional level, the more efficient they can be used to develop tourism. It is impossible to mange historical and cultural heritage of Kostroma, Khabarovsk, Tomsk or Vladivostok from Moscow. This can be accomplished only by patriots of their native regions, who are able to breathe new life into these historical monuments and objects. The current situation is certainly hampering tourism development’, said the Senator.

He is convinced that legislators are in great debt to the industry. Legislative support for tourist activity is also given by the Federation Council commission headed by Vladimir Zhidkikh.
