The Legislative Duma of Tomsk Oblast
October 2-3, 2008. Delegation of Great Britain visited Tomsk
 Delegation headed by Jennifer Lock, Consul General of Great Britain in Yekaterinburg, and Maureen Summersmith, Regional Director of BSI Management Systems (BSI MS CEMEA), visited Tomsk
In the course of the visit the delegation met Speaker of the Tomsk Oblast State Duma Boris Maltsev, Deputy Speaker of the Duma Grigory Shamin, and Chairman of Budgetary and Financial Committee Vladimir Ponomarenko.
They discussed issues of the certification of Tomsk companies in conformity with the requirements of the international standard ISO 14001. The certification is intended to help the Tomsk companies to increase the environment management system efficiency, reduce their impact on the environment, and enter global markets.
Boris Maltsev is confident that each and every company in the region must be certified, which will allow them to label their products in the suitable way for the European market.
Such labeling is necessary for complex electronic devices, medical equipment, electric motors, pressure gauges, complex cables, electric equipment. The first Tomsk company to undergo certification was EleSy Company (resident of the Tomsk technical and innovation zone).
“I believe that as soon as EleSy obtains its first certificate, every other Tomsk company will certainly want to share the experience,” said the Speaker. “The Oblast authorities will be only required to assist the manufacturers in their efforts”.
