March 1979-May 1980 and 1981-1985 - served in military service in Afghanistan, was wounded.

1985-1991 - lectured in Military Institute. Since 1991 worked in JSC Trast, Moscow. 1993-1994 - Chairman of the Board of Directors of the company Rosco S.A. (Switzerland).
November 1994-1998 - worked in OJSC Vostochnaya Neftyanaya Kompaniya (Eastern Petroleum Company) as thr Vice-President on Trade and the Head of VNK Trade House.
On December 21, 1997 elected deputy of the State Duma of Tomsk Oblast of the II convocation.
1998-1999 - Vice-President of OJSC Bank ‘Rossiysky Kredit’ (Russian Loan Bank).
October-December 1999 - President of OJSC Tomskaya Neftyanaya Kompaniya (Tomsk Petroleum Company).

1999-2003 - Deputy of the State Duma of the RF Federal Assembly of the III convocation, 2004-2007 - Deputy of the State Duma of the RF Federal Assembly of the IV convocation.

On December 2, 2007 elected Deputy of the State Duma of the RF Federal Assembly of the V convocation from Edinaya Rossiya (Unified Russia) federal party list.
