The German deputies in Tomsk

On August 24, 2007 the German deputies, travelling in Siberian regions, made a stop in Tomsk.
Aim of the visit: to look at the life standards of the ethnic Germans who live far from their Motherland and to find the ways for improvement of their living styles in Russia.

In the Oblast Duma the German Delegation was hosted by chairman of the State Duma of the Tomsk Oblast Boris Maltsev, chairman of the budget financial committee of the Duma Vladimir Ponomarenko, chairman of the Duma committee on the economic policy, manager of faction “Edinaya Rossiya” Alexsandr Kupriyanetz, staff manager of the Tomsk Oblast Duma Sergey Kuznetzov.

The German delegation consisted, besides its manager Mr. Fromme, of four Bundestag deputies: Klaus Breming, Stefan Mayer, Michael Luter and Tomas Helm. The German deputies shared with their impressions of Tomsk. The guests visited the Tomsk Polytechnical University, the Russian-German house, met with the Governor of the Tomsk Oblast, with the representatives of the public organizations of Russian Germans “Bildung” and “Yugendblik”. As Mr. Fromme noted, that it is his first visit to Russia and he is impressed with what he saw in the Tomsk Oblast parlament. The guests were surprised at how the deputies from the Northern regions of the Tomsk Oblast get to the Oblast center to take part in the meetings of the Duma. Boris Maltsev cleared the situation. First, the deputies from remote regions can connect with the Oblast center with the help of the video conference system. Second, the Tomsk Oblast deputies have an experience of having the Duma committees meetings in on-line regime.

The German guests advised to the Tomsk deputies to more actively participate in different international events and tell about the achievements of the Tomsk Oblast. The deputies of Bundestag promised to help get involved the German journalists, who could tell about Tomsk, Russia. It will be more actual on the eve of the winter Olympic games in Sochi in 2014, when all the world will follow the events in Russia.
