Gazprom promises to start supplying gas to China without delays

In 2014, Gazprom and Chinese CNPC signed a 30-year contract for the supply of natural gas via the Power of Siberia gas line.

All Gazprom’s obligations to start supplying gas to China will be performed in full and in due time. This statement was made by Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller in Tomsk in a meeting to discuss progress of the project to supply gas to China via the Eastern route.

The work on the Chayanda and Power of Siberia projects is in full swing. Gazprom will fully perform its obligations to start supplying gas to China,” he said. The meeting resulted in an action plan to continue the work on setting up Yakutia gas production center and developing gas transport and processing facilities.

In 2014, Gazprom and Chinese CNPC signed a 30-year contract for the supply of natural gas via the Power of Siberia gas line. Gazprom reported earlier of its plans to start supplying gas to China in 2018 with the annual supply volume of 5bn cu. m and ultimately increase supply volumes to 38bn cu. m per year.

As reported in the meeting in Tomsk, the work on setting up Yakutia gas production center and developing gas transport and processing facilities is on schedule. All equipment and materials have been purchased to build the facilities needed for pre-developing the oil rim. Preparations are underway for well drilling. Drilling rigs are arriving to the site.

For the Power of Siberia project the gas pipeline route is being cleared, site filling is being done for the line operation center base and a rotational camp in Lensk. Construction of the Amur gas processing plant is ongoing.

Background

The Power of Siberia is a gas transmission system for natural gas delivery from the Irkutsk and Yakutia gas production centers to the Russian Far East and China. The pipeline will run across three Russian regions – Irkutsk Oblast, Yakutia, and Amur Oblast. In the future it will be connected to the Sakhalin – Khabarovsk – Vladivostok gas transportation system. Gas production from the Chayandinskoye field is scheduled to start late in 2018. By that time, construction of the first phase of the Power of Siberia line will be completed from the Chayandinskoye field to Blagoveshchensk (2,200 km) as well as first gas processing facilities.
