The Legislative Duma of Tomsk Oblast

Education a priority for the Oblast

Education a priority for the Oblast In August, the deputies of the Legislative Duma of Tomsk Oblast have traditionally taken part in the regional education conference. The subject of the August conference was Development Priorities of the Regional Education System for Children.

The Duma was represented by Speaker Oksana Kozlovskaya, Labor and Social Policy Committee Chairman Leonid Glok, and Chairman of the Duma Committee for Culture Lev Pichurin.

Oksana Kozlovskaya in her speech at the conference talked about current priorities of the regional legislators. She also shared the plans of the Duma deputies to hold, on the Knowledge Day – September 1, open lessons about the history of Tomsk Oblast in the schools of the region to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Tomsk Oblast.

“Team work is key to the success of any region. Cooperation between the executive and legislative branches really matters here. I am convinced that joining efforts to deliver on the region’s priorities regardless of party interests has already secured many important results. Tomsk Oblast has been leading in social and economic development for many years. That has been achieved through tremendous efforts of many people in this hall who work in the region’s schools. Their contribution to the quality of our university students and young specialists is invaluable.

“Since January the Oblast deputies have adopted seven laws in education, among them laws changing financing norms for schools in accordance with the new federal standards in education.”

The Duma Speaker also emphasized that education is a number one priority for the region. As Russia is striving to become one of top five most developed economies, it must make sure that it has qualified and competitive resources to shape and move forward its economy.

Oksana Kozlovskaya also took part in the opening ceremony for the Multifunctional Center for Development of Construction and Public Utilities Resources. The Center opened in the Tomsk College of Applied Construction Qualifications. It offers training programs for a broad range of qualifications and age categories. More than 2,000 students of any age and skill level can apply for an advanced training course, which confirms an important principle in today’s management: quality of life through quality of qualifications.
