Economic Policy Committee summarized its three-year performance experience
What progress has Tomsk Oblast made in the development of innovation economy over the last three years? How does it look like compared with other regions in the Association of Innovative Regions of Russia? These questions were asked to Aleksey Knyazev, Deputy Governor of Tomsk Oblast for the Research and Education Complex and Innovation Policy at the Economic Policy Committee meeting.
At the meeting he presented information about progress in the implementation of a government program Development of innovation activity in Tomsk Oblast in 2011 ndash;2014. He delivered a detailed report on the goals and objectives of the program, key actions completed over the past three years, and summarized the results and plans for the future. Results are encouraging: The number of innovative firms is growing, investments are made in the creation of the infrastructure supporting innovations, interregional and international cooperation grows, information about innovations becomes more widespread. However, there are always weak spots along with the strong ones.
As for the development of the Special Economic Zone in Tomsk, Aleksey Knyazev says, this year they plan to commission the fire station and populate with new residents the R D center (Biocenter) which was put into operation last May. Half of the building is allocated for the producers of medical equipment, tools and materials. There are also other large projects to be implemented in both sites of the Tomsk SEZ.
laquo;We are close to completion in building the infrastructure for the Special Economic Zone. We are seeing how potential residents are taking growing interest in it. There are more and more ever more promising applications. We expect them to significantly grow in numbers. With the total revenue of the SEZ over its entire history being 3.5bn rubles, almost half of this amount was earned in 2013. We expect this growth to continue, rdquo; Mr Knyazev says.
He also informed that they are working on a new strategy for the development of innovation activity for 2025 with fairly aggressive goals.
The Committee approved the report and recommended to the Duma Council to consider and discuss the results of the program at the March 27 Duma session.
