Snow Fins 2013 meeting in the Tomsk Oblast Duma

For the third time international finswimming and sport diving competition Snow Fins took place in Tomsk.

World fastest underwater swimmers Evgeny Skorzhenko from Tomsk and Mauricio Fernandez from Columbia together with other no less renowned underwater swimming athletes and leaders of the World Underwater Federation (CMAS) were received by the Speaker of the Legislative Duma of Tomsk Oblast. CMAS President Ilias Xiarchos headed the delegation. He noted that Tomsk very warmly received the athletes who came to take part in the Snow Fins 2013 competition from all corners of the world, and that the organization of the event was worthy of great praise.

President of the Tomsk Regional Underwater Federation Natalia Grechikhina reminded that Evgeny Skorzhenko used to be the fastest man under water. This baton now has been picked up by Mauricio Fernandez from Columbia. Oksana Kozlovskaya said that she had heard a lot about Mr Fernandez’s achievements and his extraordinary capabilities.

“We all would like to see Russian athletes picking up this baton but today Mauricio is the best in the world. It’s sport. Tomorrow wins another,” Evgeny Skorzhenko said.

Other subjects discussed at the meeting were organization of the competition, Siberian hospitality, snowy weather and, of course, the 50 meter long swimming pool being built in Tomsk. Oksana Kozlovskaya said that the project sometimes faced technical difficulties but the Governor helped resolve all issues as his priorities. Every effort will be taken to ensure that Tomsk has a world class swimming pool, she reassured.
