British Ambassador to Russia
Tim Barrow arrived in Tomsk on a working visit with a delegation of British businesspeople.
The Ambassador will meet with the Governor of Tomsk Oblast and visit the Tomsk Chamber of Commerce, Special Economic Zone and Tomsk Polytechnic University. The Tomsk Polytechnic University has been implementing a joint petroleum engineering program with the Heriot-Watt University (Scotland) for over ten years.
Oil and gas industry is traditionally emphasized in the Russian-British relations. When the former British Ambassador
Anthony Brenton visited Tomsk in 2007 he visited the Nord Imperial oil field in Kargasoksky District of Tomsk Oblast as part of his itinerary. Today Tomsk mostly collaborates with British companies in the sphere of innovations. For several years Micran, Tomsk has been implementing a joint project in microelectronics with its British partners. Isis Innovation, a subsidiary of the University of Oxford helps market Tomsk’s inventions in the international markets.
In May, the British Ambassador set a business breakfast for Tomsk and British businesspeople in his residency in Moscow. As a result of that meeting Tomsk Oblast Governor
Sergey Zhvachkin invited Tim Barrow and British businesspeople to Tomsk. Seven companies from the UK accepted the invitation. They work in pharmaceuticals, construction machinery, design and engineering, leasing of diesel and reciprocating engine power plants. These companies will take part in the business contacts exchange session at the Tomsk Chamber of Commerce.
