The contest for young researchers and young hopefuls was established by the Duma in 2002, and soon became very popular with talented youth.
Over the 8 years the contest gathered 1,621 participants, out of them 459 school students, 40 vocational students, 345 university students, 302 postgraduate students, and 475 scientists, teachers, instructors, and national economists. Their names are already part of the history of the contest which was conceived to raise interest in education and science, and create new icons among school and university students.
Since the beginning, there were 25 awards. However, the number of participants steadily grows, and the deputies decided to increase the number of awards for that category from 10 to 20, especially given the fact that last year a surge in the number of high-quality applications was recorded.
The most popular nomination was “Young Hopefuls.” For reference: in 2003, there were 20 participants, and in 2010, there were 82 potential young hopefuls!
Moreover, as soon as the Duma has got a new name, the contest will change its name, too, to “Award of the Legislative Duma of Tomsk Oblast.” This year the application deadline is November.
