Tomsk at the centre of Russia – Lorraine innovative cooperation
On March 23-25 Tomsk Oblast delegation will pay a visit to Metz (Lorraine, France).
On March 23-25 Tomsk Oblast delegation had an official visit to Lorraine – Tomsk Oblast twin region in France. The program of the visit included presentations by Tomsk small innovative businesses and universities of their own projects and meetings with Lorraine industry and science representatives held during the “Day of Innovations” organized by Scientific and Technological Cooperation Association for Lorraine (CSTL). The Lorraine government acknowledged that Tomsk is currently at the focus of Russia – Lorraine innovative cooperation.
Tomsk delegation visited laboratories of Lorraine's graduate engineering schools SUPELEC (information science, power engineering, telecommunication and electronic systems) and ENSAM (higher school for science and technology), Non-Destructive Test Platform, and a recently constructed Composite Parc.
Agreements reached at the meetings in the Regional Council of Lorraine included joint support for projects, wide utilization of cooperation tools such as the Association of Innovative Regions of Russia, Tomsk SEZ, and Lorraine competitive clusters; and granting a new status to the Tomsk-Lorraine Technology Partnership Center. It was agreed that within a year the parties would bring at least 15% of currently discussed projects to joint venture or license agreement stage. Biotechnology and medicine were named the most promising areas for cooperation, namely robotic surgery, telecommunications, latest wood treatment technologies, water treatment, and geothermal energy.
The visit also involved discussions of a necessity to revive Tomsk Oblast and Lorraine ties and engage in bilateral cooperation as much public as possible. As a result, the regions agreed to hold within a year “Days of Lorraine” in Tomsk and “Days of Tomsk” in Lorraine with a purpose to unify cultural events and business and science-related meetings.
All agreements were fixed in the Memorandum of Intent signed by Tomsk Oblast Governor Viktor Kress and President of the Regional Council of Lorraine Mr. Jean-Pierre Masseret.
